In May, BT sent me a 3rd homehub and for a while it appeared to work better but on my return from 2 weeks holiday overseas, I went to use the internet and it was soooooooo slooooooooow! In fact when I measured the speed, it was less than 100kb/sec - now that isn't Broadband!David Johnsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16957422.post-5965171018048001182008-06-01T09:00:00.001+01:002008-06-01T09:03:22.533+01:00Google Android - further insight into the user experienceDavid Johnsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16957422.post-846652744458173512008-04-11T16:46:00.002+01:002008-04-11T16:49:17.075+01:00unWIRED LIFE IS BACK!!Very frustrating few weeks, unWIRED LIFE just disappeared from the internet and Google were as much help as a chocolate teapot in helping me getting it back online. I had checked with Network Solutions, they said the problem was at the Google end. So, I emailed Google via their web form, absolutely no response at all - so a big thanks to the big G! Perhaps the update will coincide with the Mac Expo which will take place the week after next. Anyway there are some great new features included eg. 1) The email is great - I have both my personal and work email set up and with 15 minute checking it is essentially like push email. Unlike my Blackberry, it supports html mail, so emails look just like they do on my laptop and when you view and David Johnsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16957422.post-84412441917815467542007-11-29T20:35:00.000Z2007-11-30T16:51:47.144ZGoogle Maps Mobile with cell locationIn the past I have written a number of posts regarding the integration of GPS with Google Maps mobile application. Yesterday, Google went one further and have introduced v2.0 which now includes a function called "My Location" which uses GPS if available but if not uses mobile network cell id technology to provide an approximate geographic location for the user. Last night, the Apple iPhone finally went on sale in the UK at O2 and Apple stores across the country. When the doors finally opened at 18.02, queues were waiting to get their hands on one of the sought after devices. In London, people queued overnight in Regent Street. Many of the people who bought them last night were hardened Apple fans like myself, who just had to have one. Tomorrow's the day Apple iPhone goes live in the UK only on O2. I have always been a big fan of the opera mini browser as it brought full web browsing within reach on mass market mobile handsets. The new version goes one step further and provides a zoomed out view of full web pages which enables you to navigate them better before zooming in on the content you want to read. Have you ever received a text messaging saying "OK fine" or "yes 6pm" and not been able to remember what the message refers to? Well I may have the solution. A couple of days ago I discovered that Nokia are distributing a beta version of a conversational messaging client for Series 60 v3 devices eg. N95. The video below gives some idea as to the interface which seems to combine finger and stylus interaction with the screen. We should start seeing devices with the new interface during 2008.
